Farofa from Brazil
Farofa is a traditional Brazilian dish (also eaten in some South African countries) usually made with manioc flour, although sometimes this flour is replaced with maize flour. This dish usually has a consistency similar to the couscous but sometimes is thinner or like a powder.
Farofa is used to accompany several other traditional dishes, such as, for example, the national dish feijoada. It is also used as a stuffing for vegetables and meats.
A Recipe of Farofa:
Ingredients:
2 cups of manioc flour
1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons chopped bacon
1 chopped onion
1/3 cup vegetable oil
Salt
2 tablespoons chopped parsley (and/or other flavors you might like)
Preparation:
Melt the butter in a pan and then fry the bacon and onion. Add the flour and toast it. Then add the parsley and salt, stir for a minute and is ready.
